NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly believes the Russian national hockey team will not be allowed to compete in the 2026 Olympics in Italy.
— When will the IOC make an official decision on whether Russia will participate in the 2026 Olympic Games?
“In fact, people assume that this has already happened, unless the course of events changes dramatically. The Summer Olympics did not allow the Russian team to participate, unlike other programs used in the past. So I expect the same rule to apply,” Daly told The Athletic.
The question of the Russian team’s participation in the 2026 Games remains open. If admitted, it will face the teams of the United States, Slovakia and Latvia in the group stage. If the Russian team is not allowed to participate in the Games, the French team will take its place in the Olympic tournament.
The 2026 Olympic Games will be held in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo from February 6 to 22.
