Athletistic / Hockey. NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly believes that the Russian national hockey team will not participate in the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy. As an example, he cited the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) decision regarding Russian athletes ahead of the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
“At the Paris Olympics, the IOC did not allow the Russian team to compete. Now, I personally expect the same rule to apply to the 2026 Winter Olympics. Russia’s participation in the 2026 Olympics is possible only if there is a radical change in political events in the world,” Daly said on TSN.
The Winter Olympic Games will be held from 6 to 22 February 2026 in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo. Since March 2022, the Russian national team has been deprived of the opportunity to participate in tournaments under the auspices of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF). The question of Russia’s participation in the 2026 Olympic Games will be decided by the IIHF Council in February-March 2025.
