Famous fan of the NHL club “Edmonton Oilers” Ben Stelter has died aged six, according to the NHL’s official website.
In March 2021, Ben was diagnosed with glioblastoma, a type of brain cancer. The boy underwent four cycles of chemotherapy and 30 sessions of radiotherapy. Stelter took the ice with the Edmonton players in March this year before the game with the San Jose Sharks at the US national anthem, after the game the fan took part in a press conference.
Mike Stelter, Ben’s father, said his son died overnight from Tuesday to Wednesday.
“Overnight the world lost a very special boy and an absolute hero. Ben you were the best son we could have hoped for and you were my best pal,” Stelter tweeted.
The NHL has expressed condolences on the passing of a young fan.
The NHL family is deeply saddened by the passing of Ben Stelter. He was a special boy whose love for the Edmonton Oilers matched the team’s love for him. Ben’s courageous battle with brain cancer and his joy at watching Oilers games have touched and inspired many. We send our sincere condolences to Ben’s family,” the statement read.
