St. Petersburg SKA striker Mikhail Vorobiev who pleaded guilty in an official’s bribery case, should be punished as the law was broken, the two-time Olympic champion tells Boris Mikhailov .
In July three Russian hockey players were caught trying to pay a bribe to be exempted from conscription into the army, criminal case documents were filed in court of the Leninsky district of Ufa. The court received elements of criminal cases under part 4 of article 291 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (bribe) against Vorobyov, Anvar Suleimanov and the attacker Admiral Vladislav Lukin.
“The question is not for me, but the court will decide, because he broke the law, so he must be responsible for his actions,” Mikhailov said.
In 2015, Vorobyov was selected 104th overall by the Philadelphia Flyers in the NHL Draft. The 25-year-old striker has been playing for SKA since 2021. Last season he made 57 appearances for the St. Petersburg club and scored 27 points (7+20) with an efficiency indicator of +19.
Earlier in Saint Petersburg, former CSKA goalkeeper Ivan Fedotov was arrested on suspicion of escaping military service and the hockey player was taken to Severodvinsk. As it became known to , the 25-year-old goalkeeper will remain in City in the training unit until the oath is taken. He is expected to be sworn in on August 13.
