Korolev was a member of the Metallurg coaching staff from 1991 to 1993 and from 1997 to 2010, and from 1993 to 1997 he worked as the head coach of the second team of Magnitogorsk.

As a coach, he became a two-time Euroleague champion, two-time Russian champion, European Super Cup winner, Russian Cup winner, two-time silver and three-time bronze medalist of the national championship.
