Ovechkin had just finished stretching and was participating in the first drill when he stopped abruptly and grimaced in obvious discomfort. After that, he went to the bench and then headed to the locker room.
On Tuesday, September 17, Ovechkin turns 39. Earlier this month, he returned to the United States after spending the summer in Russia.
Ovechkin ranks second on the league’s all-time scoring list with 853 goals, behind Wayne Gretzky (894).
