Russian goalkeeper “New York Islanders » Ilya Sorokin has undergone back surgery, reports journalist Stefan Rosner, citing the team’s head coach Patrick Roy .
It is not stated exactly when the operation was performed.
Earlier, Islanders general manager Lou Lamoriello said Sorokin suffered an upper-body injury this summer but would be ready for the start of the new NHL season.
Sorokin has been with the Islanders since 2020. Last season, he played 57 NHL games, including the playoffs, and in the regular season, he stopped 90.9% of shots per game.
In the 2023-24 Stanley Cup, the Islanders lost their first-round series to Carolina, 1-4.
