Pittsburgh extends Crosby’s contract through 2027

The legendary Canadian will earn $8.7 million under the new agreement.

Pittsburgh Penguins officially re-signed the contract with the striker Sidney CrosbyThe legendary Canadian extended his relationship with his club until 2027.

Under the new agreement, the 37-year-old team captain will earn $8.7 million annually.

A native of Cole Harbour, Canada, Crosby has played for the Penguins for virtually his entire career, since 2005. Crosby holds the Pennsylvania club’s record for games played, and he set the club’s historic record for playoff points during the 2017/18 season.

As part of Pittsburgh, Sidney won the Stanley Cup three times (2009, 2016, 2017). In addition, the forward is a world champion (2015) and a two-time Olympic champion (2010, 2014) as part of the Canadian national team. Crosby is the only hockey player in history who led his teams to the aforementioned titles as a captain.

Last season, Pittsburgh finished 10th in the Eastern Conference and failed to qualify for the playoffs. Crosby played in all 82 regular season games, scoring 42 goals (the best result in seven years) and adding 52 assists. The 2024-25 NHL season starts in early October.
