The Vancouver hockey player was diagnosed with testicular cancer and missed the start of the season.

American forward for the Vancouver Canucks Dakota Joshua reported that over the summer he was diagnosed with cancer and later had the tumor surgically removed.

Joshua is 28 years old, last season he played 76 games for Vancouver, during which he scored 40 points (22 goals + 18 assists). Previously, in the NHL, he played for the St. Louis Blues.

“This summer, doctors diagnosed me with testicular cancer. Of course, this news was scary, but fortunately, the doctors were able to remove the tumor. The last few weeks have been very difficult and I have been lucky to have the support of my family, friends, teammates and doctors.

Unfortunately, I will not have time to prepare for the start of training camp as I continue to recover from surgery. I intend to return to action as soon as possible this season and I am working hard every day to join my teammates.

“Even though it was very difficult to deal with this particular type of cancer, getting screened early was the best option and I encourage men to get screened regularly. As I continue to recover, I thank everyone in advance for respecting my privacy in this matter. The club will provide updates as needed. At the same time, I am grateful to everyone for their support and understanding,” the hockey player said in a message on Vancouver’s social media.

The new NHL regular season begins on October 4.
