Latvia could lose a number of hockey arenas due to rising electricity and gas prices – media

In Latvia, before the start of the hockey season, some ice rinks may close, reports LSM.lv .

According to the publication, the reason could be an increase in electricity and gas prices, which in Latvia increased by 3 times compared to last season.

The head of the Association of Ice Arenas of Latvia, Eriks Milyuns, in an interview on local television, said that in September 5-6 ice hockey arenas in the country may be closed. And the general secretary of the Latvian Ice Hockey Federation, Roberts Plaveis, fears that the situation could worsen due to the expected increase in coronavirus cases among the population.

Dynamo Riga previously decided to withdraw from the Continental Hockey League (KHL). The club, which has played in the KHL since 2008, will play in the Latvian Hockey League next season.
