Head Coach of Avangard Sergei Zvyagin said the team must be positive about the upcoming FONBET KHL Championship matches, despite a series of defeats.
On Thursday, Avangard suffered a fourth consecutive defeat, losing to Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg 3:0.
— If you just look at that game, then it was a good game from us. Good first two periods, despite the score. That’s based on the image. But the opponent did a great job capitalizing on the few mistakes we made. There was a good finish there. And if you look at the game in the context of where we are after a losing streak, then we need to correct that now.
— Why did this series of defeats happen? What is the problem?
– Yes, it has become more difficult with the goals. We create a lot of chances in every game, but so far we have not succeeded. And if you do not score, you must be able to play defensively and make the right decisions. Today, the opponent did not have much puck possession in the first two periods. But we made key mistakes by not taking the puck out of the zone twice, then a turnover on the entrance, a slightly wrong position on the return – and this led to three goals. But apart from that, nothing else comes to mind in the 40 minutes of Avtomobilist.
We have to understand that we have to score, turn the situation around in front of the opposing goal. But if the puck doesn’t go away, then we have to play intelligent and responsible defense.

“And even before the third period, even though the opponent played very well defensively, we had an active bench. Many guys got excited. Nobody stopped. There are no complaints about this.
