President of the Russian Hockey Federation (FHR) Vladislav Tretyak said that the Junior World Championship is interesting only for professionals, fans are not interested in the tournament.
The tournament, interrupted on New Year’s Eve due to the coronavirus pandemic, takes place from August 9 to 20 in Edmonton (Canada). The Russian national team does not participate in the world championship due to the decision of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) to withdraw Russians from competitions under its auspices.
– Are you interested in watching the MFM, which has now started in Canada?
“Professionals are interested in seeing this. Because tomorrow or the day after tomorrow, we will still be playing against them. You have to know which hockey, which opponent.
But our fans are not so interested. But here are the pros who live hockey and catch global trends, be sure to watch how the games are going,” Tretyak told reporters.
“But even in Canada, the bleachers are empty. Why did you decide to hold the MFM in the summer?
– In the empty stands, a question for the IIHF.
