Head coach of SKA Romain Rotenberg believes that the management of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) should explain the decision to ban the transfer of the striker Emile Galimova in Barys.
On Friday, reported that the 32-year-old forward was leaving SKA, but due to KHL regulations he would not be able to join Barys. The KHL banned the transfer of a hockey player, since, according to the regulations, more than three players cannot be transferred from one club to another. After that, Rotenberg said that Galimov had left the club and would play for SKA-Neva.
— Tell us about the situation with Emil Galimov. The league banned his transfer to Barys, now he ended up in the VHL – in SKA-Neva. Why is this so?
— It’s best to ask these questions to the league’s press service. Let them explain everything to you there. For our part, we always try to help our players, we do not abandon them even in this difficult situation. Our KHL regulations are structured in such a way that many players are now unemployed. A lot of very strong hockey players. Among them there are even winners of the Gagarin Cup. This is an overall serious situation. We don’t have a union, like in North America, that protects hockey players and their interests.
That’s why we as a club, and me personally, try to protect the players as much as possible. In this situation, we did everything possible for Emil to find a job. We talked to him and decided that he would train and play for SKA-Neva from now on. At the same time, we are still looking for a job for him in the KHL. I’m sure we’ll have him back in a week or two, a month at most, and he’ll keep playing. Galimov is in excellent form. But the rules are structured in such a way that many players find themselves out of work. What are they going to do? They have no other job. This is a serious social problem. Let’s think together about how to help them. We don’t abandon ours.
— Are you going to ask the league to adjust the regulations in this direction?
“We asked this question several times, but we received no answer,” the correspondent reports, according to Rotenberg.
Last season, Galimov scored 5 (1+4) points in 20 games for SKA, adding 2 (1+1) points in eight playoff games. This season, the forward did not participate in official KHL meetings.
