Two-time Olympic champion Alexander Yakushev expressed the opinion that the leaders of the National Hockey League (NHL) clubs were interested in the Washington forward. Alexander Ovechkin played as long as possible.
Ovechkin ranks second on the NHL’s all-time goalscoring list with 853 goals, behind Gretzky (894). With Washington, Ovechkin won the Stanley Cup in 2018.

First of all, the NHL is a business. Washington Stadium is always packed with fans when Alexander plays. This is happening in other cities as well, as people come to see Ovechkin in full stadiums. The leaders of all NHL clubs want Ovechkin to play as long as possible and bring dividends,” Yakushev said, as quoted by Soviet Sport.
The new NHL season begins on October 4.
