Russian goalkeeper “San Jose” Yaroslav Askarov was sent to the Sharks’ farm club San Jose Barracuda of the AHL, according to the team’s official website.
Askarov did not prepare with the team for the season due to a lower body injury.
In August, Askarov was traded from Nashville to San Jose. The agreement with the 22-year-old goalkeeper will come into force from the 2025/26 season, the average annual salary of the hockey player will be $2 million. The goalkeeper has one year remaining on his rookie contract.
Askarov was selected by Nashville 11th overall in the first round of the 2020 NHL Entry Draft. Since 2022, he has been playing in the club system. Last season in the AHL, the 22-year-old goaltender played in 44 regular season games and averaged 91.1% shots per game. In the NHL, Askarov played three matches and won one victory.
