Head coach SKA Romain Rotenberg told that he had a dream: to overtake Boris Mikhailov in the number of victories with the St. Petersburg club.
On Monday, Rotenberg will play his 200th career KHL game as head coach. SKA, under his leadership, will face Lokomotiv (7:30 p.m. Moscow time) in the FONBET KHL championship.
Rotenberg ranks fourth in SKA history in terms of the number of career matches (199). Only Valery Shilov (236), Nikolay Puchkov (507) and Boris Mikhailov (630) are in the lead. In terms of number of victories, Rotenberg is in third place (133), ahead of Puchkov (193) and Mikhailov (238).
— Do you have a dream: to surpass Mikhailov in the number of victories in the history of SKA?
— Today in the KHL there are players who strive to break the records of Boris Petrovich Mikhailov. As a head coach, I am no exception and will also strive to achieve the maximum result. This is definitely true! Furthermore, I would like to once again congratulate Boris Mikhailov, who did so much for SKA, on his last birthday.
— There are also statistics that at the beginning of this season you were second in the history of the KHL in terms of winning percentage (67.4%), second only to Vyacheslav Bykov (68.6%). Third – Igor Nikitin (66.4%). This is for coaches who have worked in our league for at least 100 matches.
— It is interesting that Nikitin and I are almost equal, and even today we meet face-to-face. What a coincidence. All the more interesting will be this match between Lokomotiv and SKA, in which teams with two different hockey systems and philosophies will meet. The public should enjoy this match. Our credo is to score as much as possible and be creative in attack. Moreover, this quality has always distinguished the USSR national team,” Rotenberg told the correspondent.
SKA under Rotenberg scored 772 goals in the regular championships and playoffs of the KHL, Metallurg scored 766 goals during this period, the third figure was CSKA (718).
