Washington Capitals rookie Brown hopes to see Ovechkin break Gretzky’s record

Forward “Washington” Connor Brown wished the team of Russian strikers Alexander Ovechkin set the National Hockey League (NHL) record for most goals scored in the regular season.

“It will be great to see how he sets the record for the number of goals. It would be cool to watch it. I’m just happy to be part of such a team, — are the words of Brown on the NHL website.

Ovechkin, 35, scored 780 regular season goals and is the third-highest scorer in league history. Wayne Gretzky leads with 894, followed by Gordie Howe with 801. Last July, the Russian signed a new contract with the Capitals for five years.

Brown in the summer was traded for “Washington from Ottawa. Last season, the striker played 64 games in the regular season, scored 39 points (10+29).
