Athletistic/Hockey. Sports journalist Rob Rossi explained how Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine is affecting Russian hockey players playing for NHL clubs.

“Many Russian players who were about to enter the free agent market were unable to return to Russia due to potential problems in order to leave Russia by decision of the authorities. Those who remained in the United States or in Canada, fearing that they will not be able to return from Russia in time, for more than a year, have not had the opportunity to see their family and friends. Almost all Russians I know are afraid that close people from him do not suffer because of the situation in Ukraine,” Rossi said, adding that, in his opinion, the situation will only get worse in the near future.

In the 2021/2022 season, 43 Russians played in the American National Hockey League (NHL). Russian forward Valery Nichushkin won the Stanley Cup last season with the Colorado Avalanche.
