Head coach “Philadelphia” Jean Tortorella believes that the striker of the Russian team Matvei Mishkov has done a lot of work on himself and is handling challenges well in his first NHL season.
In September, Michkov, 19, signed a standard three-year entry-level contract with Philadelphia. The club selected him seventh overall in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft.
“Even before he arrived, I was told he loved to compete. This doesn’t surprise me. I didn’t know much about how he operated without the puck, but he picked up a few things we tried to teach him at the start of the season. I just think he did a really good job as a young man and coming here when everyone was talking about him and all the attention was on him. He’s doing a really good job,” Tortorella told the NHL’s official website.
In 12 regular season matches, Michkov scored 4 goals and made 5 assists.
