Olympic champion Lindros believes Ovechkin can break Gretzky’s record in late February

Olympic champion Eric Lindros believes that the Russian forward of the Washington Capitals Alexander Ovechkin could beat Wayne Gretzky’s record at the end of February 2025.

On Saturday, Ovechkin scored twice in an away match against St. Louis (8:1). The 39-year-old hockey player ranks second in the list of the best snipers of regular NHL championships (863 goals), just behind Canadian Gretzky (894).

— If you watch Ovechkin’s pace, you’ll see how he rushes and scores in batches. He’s just regular Alex, right? You know, he can miss a game and then come back and score a double. It is therefore very possible that he will break the record this season. Maybe he will do it at the end of February,” Lindros said on the NHL’s official website.

This season, Ovechkin, 39, scored 18 (10+8) points in 14 regular season games.
