“It’s boring, there’s not much to do.” Striker “Sochi” Ivanyuzhenkov – about life in the United States

Offensive “Sochi” Artem Ivanyuzhenkov told Sport24 about life in the United States. The Russian played in various North American leagues from 2017 to 2020.

How did you adapt to the United States?

– There was a familiar Russian guy. And another Kazakh was in the team, who, like me, had just arrived. So we stayed together, quietly spent the season. For a year I got used to it and the next year it was generally normal. I also learned English.

Your USHL team was based in South Dakota, right in the middle of the United States. Like the?

– It’s boring. Fields, farms, roads. There is nothing special to do. Another life. Sometimes they don’t understand English because they have their own dialect. But basically you get used to it. We went bowling, went to the movies. Well, more golf. There is nothing more.

– How did you manage the car and the apartment?

“Everyone lives there as a family. Another guy from the team lived in mine, he had a car, and they went to training and games on it,” Ivanyuzhenkov said.

Ivanzhenkov was part of the San Jose Sharks system for three years. The Russian has not played any games in the National Hockey League.
