Rotenberg – about the first goal of the match against Ak Bars: “They did not take up the challenge, considering that such goals counted in favor of the attack”

Head coach of SKA Romain Rotenberg after the FONBET KHL championship match with Ak Bars, he explained why the St. Petersburg team did not meet the challenge after the first goal of the Kazan team.

SKA lost in overtime on the road “Ak Barsu” with a score of 2:3.

— It was a double-edged match, both teams showed excellent hockey. The game was played at playoff level, a KHL highlight. Full palace, wonderful ice cream, good breathing.

We missed the first goal, although we should have scored more than once. But that’s hockey: if you don’t score, they score on you. When the first goal came, they did not rise to the challenge; they considered such goals to count in favor of the attack. We thought it would count, so we didn’t try to bother the goalkeeper, to avoid taking any risks. The match was going in our favor, we had to convert our chances.

They showed character, scored good goals and equalized. The second goal conceded was probably unnecessary.

The referees had to intervene in the situation (along with DeAngelo) to prevent some sort of blow to the head while the player was already down. If you watch NHL games, the referees immediately attack the hockey players when they fall. Unfortunately, the consequences could be very serious,” Rotenberg was quoted as saying by a correspondent.
