Scout “Washington” Martin Pulo explained what the team thinks about the pursuit Alexandra Ovechkina behind Wayne Gretzky’s record for most NHL goals.
Ovechkin ranks second in the list of the best snipers of regular NHL championships (863 goals), just behind Canadian Wayne Gretzky (894).
“It seems to me that this record could distract attention from Washington, but the exact opposite is happening. Our strong start to the season has something to do with chasing Ovechkin. The guys are full of enthusiasm. When he casts a casting call, everyone is happy. Ovechkin is focused, he wants to break the record,” Pouleau quotes the Journal de Québec.
This season, Ovechkin, 39, scored 20 (10+10) points in 16 regular season games. Washington has 23 points in 16 games and ranks fourth in the Eastern Conference.
