With the score 3:2, the Knights scorer Jack Eichel arrested Thompson and took the Russian out Ivana Barbachev into an empty net, but Ovechkin pushed away his compatriot’s puck and saved the team from a goal. After which he himself scored the fourth and fifth goals against the Vegas team.
“Ovechkin interrupted the scoring attack in the second period; and that may have turned the tide of the game,” Thompson told the NHL’s official website.
Washington has 25 points in 17 games and is in third place in the Eastern Conference, just one point behind leader Carolina.
