Jeremy Roenick, 2002 Olympic silver medalist and former US national team center forward, weighed his chances Alexandra Ovechkina break the record Wayne Gretzky by goals in NHL regular seasons.
“I’m sure Alex will break the record. It’s going to be tough for him to do that this season, but he’s the best sniper I’ve ever seen in hockey. If anyone can beat Gretzky’s record, it’s him,” Roenick said according to Responsible Gaming.
Ovechkin has 15 goals in 18 games this season, but injured his leg yesterday in the 6-2 win over Utah and is expected to be out for one to two weeks.
Ovechkin is second in regular season goals in NHL history (868), behind Wayne Gretzky (894) with 26 goals.
