The head of the Federation is now officially Sergei Mazur
Georgy Zubkopreviously headed Ukrainian Hockey Federationofficially announced that he was resigning, calling the change of power in the organization a “raider takeover.”
“The raider takeover of power from the Ukrainian Hockey Federation was successful. I am no longer the head of the national Federation. A group of people who, six months before the scheduled elections, launched an unprincipled campaign for an early change of power, put the squeeze on them through the official register.”
“It wasn’t me who suffered from this. Not my team. Hockey suffered. Dismantled national teams, no national championship, dilapidated clubs, children in complete uncertainty. Elections without elections are evil. Pro-Russian people in power are evil. Unqualified people in power are evil. We will not interfere, we will transfer the cases, otherwise it will be destruction and evil.”
“I thank my team for their work, partners and friends for their support. We were united until the end. We did everything to ensure that hockey developed, even in the most difficult conditions. We saved hockey during the war. The national teams showed the best results in the last 20 years. We have attracted top partnerships to restore destroyed arenas and create new opportunities for children. And a lot of things can be assessed by the results. A detailed report on my activities will be published before December 15.”
“This is all not just about hockey. It’s about more. About us as a society that still has a lot to change: in thinking, values, daily choices. Only then will we be able to live in a truly free country, the survival of which we fight every day.”
Let us remind you that in September there was a split in the FHU. An event called the “General Congress of the Ukrainian Hockey Federation” took place in Kremenchug, at which Sergei Mazur was elected as the new president of the organization.
At first, this congress and its decisions did not receive official status – in the register of the Ministry of Justice, Georgy Zubko continued to be listed as the head of the FHU for some time. However, according to current information, since November 21, Sergei Mazur has officially been the president of the Ukrainian Hockey Federation.
Due to the crisis in the leadership, the holding of the Super League championship was in doubt for a long time, its start was repeatedly postponed. As a result, the Ukrainian championship still started on November 1. At the same time, last season’s participants Trident and Berserkers did not reach the tournament distance, but Storm and Krizhinka entered the elite division.
At the moment, the Odessa Storm, having won all six opening matches (one in overtime), is leading the championship. Kyiv Capitals are in second place, with the current champion Sokol breathing down their fellow countrymen’s backs.
