NHL Club”San Jose Sharks “officially retired the number 19 that the attacker wore Joe Thornton .
The ceremony took place before the NHL regular season game against Buffalo (2:4). Thornton became the second Sharks player after Patrick Marleau to receive this honor.
Thornton was selected by Boston with the first pick in the 1997 draft; the hockey player was traded to the Sharks in 2005. In 1,714 games in the NHL, the forward scored 1,539 points (430 goals + 1,109 assists), which places him 14th in the history of the league. As a member of the Canadian team, he won the Olympic Games (2010) and the World Cup (2004, 2016).
