General Director of the Russian Hockey Federation (RFH) Dmitry Kurbatov told that Russian hockey players would be happy to hold a joint training camp in Novogorsk with Iranian athletes.
On Monday, the official website of the Russian Hockey Federation reported that for the first time in the history of women’s hockey, joint training camps between Russia and Iran were organized. They will be held from December 3 to 10 at the Novogorsk Training Center, where a hockey camp will be organized. Russian athletes will be able to share their experience and guests will be able to improve their skills and take a step towards the development of women’s hockey in Iran.
— The Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation is concerned about our situation and constantly questions our cooperation with North Korean and Iranian athletes. They send different offers. This is how an option arose, according to which we agreed to host Iranian female hockey players at the Novogorsk base in order to share our experiences with them and organize bilateral matches. There is no question yet that Russian hockey players will pay a new visit to Iran.
— At whose expense did the Iranian athletes come to Russia?
– They came at their own expense. And we agreed with Novogorsk to allow Iranian women who are friends with us to enter there. We will be happy to play hockey with them, ”Kurbatov told the correspondent.
The Russian women’s team is in sixth place in the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) rankings. The Iranian women’s team is absent from this list of 46 countries.
