Brylin admitted he’s happy to be on the New Jersey Devils coaching staff right now.

Three-time Stanley Cup winner Sergei Brylin included in the technical staff”New Jersey Devils “, spoke of his duties in a new position within the club of the National Hockey League (NHL).

On Thursday, the Devils announced that the 48-year-old Russian coach has been named assistant coach Lindy Ruff. For the past eight seasons, Brylin has been on the coaching staff for AHL (American Hockey League) teams affiliated with New Jersey.

– Sergey, first of all, I congratulate you on this appointment. Was it unexpected for you?

To be honest, there have been such conversations over the past few years. Now we have been coordinating various points with the general manager for a long time, but I am very happy to have been given this position.

What responsibilities will you have within the team?

– I will work more individually with the players, take care of a quick analysis of the matches played, and I will also be responsible for the team’s play in the minority.

– One of the advantages is that you know the players in the system, many players in the current team have passed through the farm club.

– I agree with you. A lot of guys who are now in the team are well known to me. We’ll meet the others later.

Did the New Jersey Farm Club perform well last year?

– Yes, at the start we won 13 in a row, it’s an AHL record. We won our conference. And then in the playoffs, because of the new formula, you had to wait until the opponent was determined in a series that could go up to two wins. As a result, they didn’t play for nine days and in the first round of the qualifiers they lost in the deciding fifth game at their venue. So the season turned out to be a bit double for us.

What can we expect from New Jersey next season?

— Next season’s team is capable of solving serious problems. We have a lot of players who have been selected in the first round of the draft in recent years, and they are progressing through the game. Several new players have also joined the team. Therefore, I expect good results in the coming season. To be honest, I’m very happy to have been part of the team’s coaching staff right now,” Brylin said in an interview with Rossiyskaya Gazeta.

Brylin played for New Jersey from 1994 to 2008. In total, he played 765 games for the team in the NHL regular season, in which he scored 308 points (129 goals + 179 assists).
