The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) will not influence the decision of hockey players to play in Russian or Belarusian clubs, leaving the right to national federations to impose personal sanctions on players.
This was stated by the head of the IIHF Luc Tardif quoted by journalist Steven Ellis.
“The IIHF leaves the decision on player sanctions for playing in Russia and Belarus to independent countries,” Tardif said.
Earlier, the IIHF president said that the national teams of Russia and Belarus would not be allowed to participate in international competitions in 2023 due to the situation in Ukraine.
