Athletistic/Hockey. Boris Mikhailov, two-time Olympic ice hockey champion in the USSR national team, shared his opinion on the decision of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) to extend the suspension of Russian national teams of all ages from tournaments under the auspices of the federation for the 2022/2023 Season.
“The International Ice Hockey Federation is making a big mistake. But, of course, the Russian national team needs to live and prepare more. Where the Russian national team of any rank participates – junior, youth or adult – there is always interest and people going to matches,” said Mikhailov.
In February 2022, the IIHF suspended the Russia and Belarus hockey teams from participation in all international tournaments until September 2022. On August 20, IIHF President Luc Tardif told a conference release that the Russians’ suspension had been extended until the end of the 2022/2023 season and would be updated from season to season. The reason for the withdrawal is the same – a special operation of Russia on the territory of Ukraine.
