St. Petersburg Striker S.K.A. Matvey Michkov announced on Monday that he will begin training on the ice after a knee injury suffered during the Sochi Open hockey preseason tournament.
The hockey player was injured in early August during a match between the national team of young Russian stars (players under 25) and Dynamo Minsk (3-5). After a collision with Belarus defender Alexei Yemelin, the 17-year-old left the pitch.
“The injury didn’t do anything for me. I was as ready for the season as I am now. All the same. Health is better than before. I will wear the tape for a week and take it off. Tomorrow I will start training on the ice, hopefully after that it will take a week or two,” Michkov told reporters.
The new Fonbet KHL Championship regular season starts on September 1st. SKA will host Ufa Salavat Yulaev in the first game on September 3.
