Vice-president of the KHL on the success of the Medialiga: “Maybe we will take an example from them”

Sergey Dobrokhvalov, KHL vice president for marketing and communications, said hockey can take inspiration from the Media League or come up with its own original format to appeal to new audiences.

On Wednesday, the amateur blogger team “Amkal” reached the third round of the Russian Football Cup, beating the second league club “Tver” (1-0). The 2DROTS team also participated in the professional teams tournament.

– As I said, we now have a strategic goal – greater involvement of those who have never watched hockey before. To attract, we have to change our product – what we show. Unfortunately, hockey in its classic form is difficult for the modern generation. In other words, it is difficult for them to sit in front of the television for 2.5 hours, we see it. Therefore, the league has a lot of projects to create on hockey products. For example, a 3v3 tournament, a very dynamic game. Also, my colleagues and I are discussing the creation of such tournaments.

Maybe we’ll take the example of the Medialiga or come up with something original. The same series “Molodezhka” greatly contributed to the development of hockey in the country. The strategy is being written, from 2023 the number of new audiences will increase. But this audience, which we will bring, must be preserved, and this already requires, among other things, a restructuring of the work of the media. Retaining an audience is a much more difficult task than attracting it,” Dobrokhvalov told a press conference.

The new KHL season begins on September 1.
