CSKA could swap Fedotov for SKA for Samonov. But first, Philadelphia must freeze the goaltender’s contract.

As it became known from “, there is an option in which the goalkeeper of the Russian national hockey team Ivan Fedotov will continue his career in Saint Petersburg.

The other day there were reports that the goalkeeper signed a three-year contract with CSKA, for which he played earlier. It was reported that after signing the deal, the hockey player could be traded to another KHL club. The league’s press service “” said that “they did not receive documents for registering a contract with a hockey player or requests for the possibility of concluding a contract with Fedotov.” And CSKA’s press service previously reported that the club did not sign a contract with the goalkeeper.

Nevertheless, as it became known from , there is an option in which CSKA will sign a contract with Fedotov for several years and immediately exchange him with SKA St. Petersburg for Alexander Samonov. For this agreement to take place, Philadelphia must freeze Fedotov’s contract, and he would become free for contractual relations in the KHL.

The logic here is that Fedotov can play (serve in the army) in his hometown of St. Petersburg. At the same time, CSKA goalkeeping coach Sergei Naumov likes current St. Petersburg goalkeeper Alexander Samonov as a player, they worked together last season at the Russian stage of the Eurotour and Olympic Games.

In the 2021/22 season Fedotov in the CSKA won the Gagarin Cup, in May he signed a contract with the Philadelphia Flyers NHL club.

In early July, Fedotov was arrested in St. Petersburg on suspicion of escaping military service, then the athlete was taken to Severodvinsk. The hockey player filed a complaint against the selection committee of St. Petersburg, a preliminary meeting will be held on September 20.
