IIHF suspends Russian hockey player Komarov for eight months for doping

International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) for eight months disqualified Russian hockey player Dmitry Komarov due to a positive doping test after the Youth Hockey League championship match.

Defender”Seagulls from Nizhny Novgorod was checked after the MHL game against the Siberian Snipers (Novosibirsk) on November 30, 2021.

The laboratory revealed the presence of the prohibited substance tuaminoheptane in the Komarov doping test.

The athlete’s disqualification begins on March 23, 2022, when he provided the first explanation and voluntarily accepted the provisional suspension.

On May 13, Komarov applied for a retroactive therapeutic use authorization for the drug, which was denied.

— The IIHF took into account that the drug was prescribed to the player by a doctor due to his condition, the player’s youth and inexperience, and his lack of anti-doping education. As a result, the federation considered the eight-month disqualification period sufficient, the IIHF said.
