Three-time Stanley Cup winner, State Duma deputy Vyacheslav Fetisov described as strange the decision of a member of the executive committee of the Slovak Ice Hockey Federation, Michal Handzus, who resigned due to a disagreement with the organization’s intention to call up players from the KHL in the national team.
Previously, Stanley Cup owner Gandzush resigned due to a disagreement with his federation’s position on inviting KHL hockey players to the Slovak national team.
– Let the champion rest, that’s his position. I want to express my gratitude to Slovakia for the fact that they will call the players from Russia, well done. And let the guy rest, his brain is probably sharpened differently, we can only sympathize. A strange guy, Fetisov told RBC Sport.
Previously, the national teams of the Czech Republic, Sweden, Finland and Latvia decided not to invite KHL players.
The national teams of Russia and Belarus have been suspended from international competitions, including the world championship held in Finland in May, due to the situation in Ukraine. Russia will also not play at the World Championships in 2023 and at the World Junior Championships.
On August 20, the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) announced that it does not plan to allow the national teams of Russia and Belarus in 2023 to participate in international competitions under the auspices of the organization.
