The NHL supports the participation of Russian hockey players in the 2024 World Championship

Earlier, the International Ice Hockey Federation suspended Russia for an indefinite period.

Deputy Commissioner National Hockey League (NHL) Bill Daley stated that he supports the participation of Russian players in Ice Hockey World Championship 2024.

“Of course we would like that. [участия россиян в ЧМ-2024]. I think that our Russian players would like it. So we would certainly like to accommodate them in some credible way,” Daly said.

In February, the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) suspended Russian and Belarusian national teams and clubs from participating in competitions under its auspices due to the invasion of Russian troops into Ukraine.

In April, the IIHF took away the right to host the 2023 World Championship from Russia. Also, Russia was deprived of the right to host the 2023 World Youth Championship, which was supposed to be held in Omsk and Novosibirsk.

Note that Russian players can play for NHL teams. In addition, several Russian hockey players were selected in the 2022 draft.
