“Popov probably thinks he can still play. But the main problem is his health” – CSKA coach Fedorov

CSKA head coach Sergei Fedorov spoke about the victory over HC Sochi and shared his thoughts on a possible return to Alexander Popov.

On Sunday, CSKA defeated HC Sochi in the home match of the Fonbet KHL Championship (5:2). The army team led 5-0 at the start of the third period, but then conceded two goals.

“We drew the right conclusions from previous matches,” said Fedorov. — The guys heard us, there were a lot of good moments in our game. The opponent was fast. We were warned that we had to move a lot. I’m happy for the boys, they did well in all three areas.

— Not embarrassing for two missed goals in the third period. Reideborn “cracking” wouldn’t hurt.

– I agree, of course we didn’t want to concede those two goals. But we must pay tribute to the opponent, who continued to put pressure. And there, with a goal, there were two rebounds. The season has only just begun, the whole fight is ahead.

– Is Abramov progressing this season? He scores very beautiful and heavy goals.

– The fact that Vitaly scores beautiful goals is a fact. And I hope he will progress. But we will continue to work with him on certain factors. He works hard and accomplishes a lot.

– What news from Alexander Popov? Can he spend another season at CSKA level?

– Not much news. The player’s head is still spinning. I’m sure Sasha thinks about it and thinks he can still play. But the main problem here is his health. And I wouldn’t want to talk about it in the press. If, after a good season, Popov decides to finish, it will be a good note. He is an example for all of us. I wish him good health, let him look at himself from the outside and decide what to do next.

The Moscow Army team has already had five wins and two losses this season. 42-year-old striker Popov spent last season at CSKA and was recognized as the most valuable player in the playoffs.
