World hockey suffers from a lack of Russian team at major tournaments, the World Cup without his participation would not be complete, said the 2017 and 2019 Universiade champion, the coach of the Southern Urals in an interview with Vladislav Khromykh .
Earlier it was reported that Russian hockey players can play in the 2024 World Cup. The tournament is expected to take place in Europe and North America, while if the Russian team plays in the tournament, then without the flag and country name.
– One of the problems of Russian hockey today is the lack of equipment. Even players from KHL clubs suffer from it. How is it in the “South Urals”?
– It was predictable. After the imposition of sanctions, major equipment manufacturers halted deliveries to Russia. In the “South Urals” there are also problems with clubs, uniforms, training clothes. But it seems to me that now all the teams are in the same position. The guys try to find options – they play with foreign and Russian clubs. The “fillers” now help a lot.
– There are different opinions about Zaryad. Someone says it’s fine, but it’s hard for someone to get used to these clubs.
It’s true, some like it, some don’t. Everyone is already used to the “bauers”, CSM. But only time will tell how events will develop further.
– It looks like we need to expand the production now.
— I think the range of clubs will be expanded in the near future. Yes, the quality will improve.
— How to develop Russian hockey in a vacuum? After all, not only do we have equipment problems, but the national teams don’t play anywhere.
– You can’t give up. Yes, you have to cook in your own juice. But there are Belarusians, Kazakhstan side by side. At national team level, you can play with them. But, again, information appeared that the Russian team may participate in the World Cup, organized by the NHL.
– What do you think of that?
“It will be a major breakthrough. At the same time, you need to understand that the World Cup without Russia is an inferior tournament. And in general, world hockey suffers from the absence of our team. The World Cup passed, the plot there was soft. And the junior world championship took place almost in front of empty stands. Without Russia, public interest has drastically diminished. But, apparently, it suits someone.
– Who?
– The politicians. And the athletes and leaders themselves are not 100% satisfied. Everyone wants to play with the strongest.
Vladislav Khromykh led the Russian national ice hockey team at the 2017 and 2019 Universiade and led the team to gold medals on both occasions.
