“It’s not for nothing that Kaprizov is called the Savior of Minnesota.” Another American has arrived in the KHL

We spoke with Menell immediately after his physical examination at a clinic in central Moscow. The American’s health turned out to be good, medical certificates were sent to the KHL CIB (Central League Information Bureau), after which the player’s contract with Dynamo Moscow was registered.

By the way, there are now 501 Russians in the KHL, but there are also, bend your fingers:

Of course, you are intrigued: who is this Mexican? Answer: 24-year-old Kunlun striker Christian Afanasiev. But now it’s about Menelle.

– Brennan, you immediately impressed everyone with your luxurious mustache. Is this your style? Or are you already preparing Movember?

– Both. I watched a movie and saw a guy there who looked very cool with a mustache. Well, I thought: “Good idea – I, too, let go of such a mustache.” No sooner said than done.

– You are only a few days here, you took the Washington-Istanbul-Moscow flight. What is your impression of the capital and our climate?

‘Well, I’ve already been to Moscow. Very cool city, and there are a million ideas of what to do here. And the weather, I think, is very similar to the weather of the places I come from. It’s like in Minnesota. So I’m used to that kind of weather. I am very happy to have come to such a good city.

– Not so long ago you were already playing for Dynamo, but Minsk. Now Moscow. What do you know of the club and the name itself?

– Actually, I still don’t quite know what Dynamo is. But I know that there are several teams that have this name at the same time. I’ll find the answer soon when I get to the team and ask the guys.

— What made you come back here and play in the KHL again? Maybe someone from Canadian and American friends who played in Russia advised you?

Yeah, I’ve talked to guys. But he also played in the KHL before. It’s a very good league. I liked everything last time. And when the opportunity arose to come to such a cool club as Dynamo Moscow, he did everything not to miss the chance.

– What was the reaction of those around you when you announced that you were going to Russia?

“They were very happy for me. And everyone understands that it’s a very cool experience for me. Play in the KHL, discover a city as big as Moscow. And when my relatives get a visa, they will fly to visit me in Russia.

– What do you know about your new teammates, the head coach?

– I only had one training session with Dynamo. The staff is very welcoming and friendly, I am impressed. A great arena, and you have absolutely everything to play hockey and only think about your main activity.

— What do you think of the style of hockey in the KHL? Not so long ago we started moving to smaller venues. It’s probably best for you.

– A few years ago, I already played in the KHL on different court sizes. Sometimes it is difficult to immediately adapt to the big ice. But the ice at Dynamo Moscow meets Canadian standards (26×60 m), and I feel comfortable on it.

You are from Minnesota. What did Kirill Kaprizov tell you when you decided to leave for Dynamo Moscow?

– Yes, we did not communicate with him. But I’m sure he’s happy for me.

“How is Kiryukha over there?” Has he become an important person in your state?

“In fact, the people of Minnesota don’t call him the Savior for nothing. He quickly became the best player in the Wild and everyone was over the moon when he signed a new contract. People have the opportunity during at least four years to go to the arena and watch his hockey live.

– The most beautiful mustache in the NHL is Auston Matthews. Now the best mustache in the KHL is Brennan Menell.

– Very glad to hear!

“Can we call you our Auston Matthews?”

– No no no! This guy has his own style. And he plays much better than me. I don’t think it’s fair if you call me by his name.

– Now the best defender in the world is Cale Makar. You are also an offensive defender. What do you think of the style of your colleague from Colorado?

– Makar is a role model for all attacking defenders. He shows on the ice what others are not capable of. He’s just a game-changer, and he’s great both in defense and attack. When you have such a player, any team will perform much better. I watch Makar play and try to do the same things he did on the pitch.
