England forward Ivan Toney has been charged with assault causing bodily harm following a Soho nightclub incident, London's Metropolitan Police announced on Friday, August 7.
The Metropolitan Police stated that the 30-year-old footballer, from Northampton, was formally charged on Thursday, July 31. The charge relates to an assault that allegedly took place at a Soho nightclub on December 6, 2025.
Westminster court appearance and response
Toney is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Thursday, September 24. A spokesperson for Toney said in a statement to media outlets that Toney acknowledges the charge and, while naturally shocked, looks forward to the opportunity to clear his name in court.
The scheduled court appearance comes two days before England hosts world champions Spain at Wembley Stadium on September 26 in their opening Group 3 match in League A of the Nations League.
Career with Al-Ahli and England
Toney currently plays in Saudi Arabia for Al-Ahli, where he scored 42 goals last season. The former Brentford player was included in England's squad for this year's World Cup, though Three Lions manager Thomas Tuchel used him sparingly during the tournament.
