Manchester United made a fresh enquiry for Newcastle United left back Lewis Hall at the end of last month, but were told he is not for sale. Hall has been on United's radar this summer as the club seeks to strengthen at left back.
Luke Shaw, now 31, is in the final year of his contract after starting all 38 Premier League matches last season. United feel light in the position with no obvious back-up, as Michael Carrick views Patrick Dorgu as a winger, while youngster Harry Amass has been told he may be best leaving for first team football.
Hall, 21, joined from Chelsea in 2023 and has three years left on his current contract. Regarded as one of Newcastle's biggest assets, he would command a substantial fee. Newcastle are determined to keep him as they look to stabilise with Matthias Jaissle now in place and keep their squad competitive.
Newcastle have already lost Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali, while Bruno Guimaraes is on the verge of signing for Arsenal.
Transfer plans for both clubs
United have signed Youri Tielemans, Andrey Santos and Karl Darlow during this transfer window, but are not done yet.
Newcastle are also looking to strengthen at left back and want a new right back, with Tino Livramento likely to move on soon. Newcastle and Aston Villa are among the clubs to have checked on 19-year-old Jorge Salinas at Racing Santander, though Newcastle view him as one for the future rather than ready to play immediately.
