The Finnish Ski Association objected to the participation of Russian representatives in FIS meetings

The Finnish Ski Association has objected to the admission of representatives from Russia and Belarus to attend meetings of the International Ski Federation (FIS), according to the organization’s official website.

Earlier it was reported that Norway refused to participate in the FIS meeting in Switzerland, which runs from September 28-30, due to the presence of Russian representatives. Russian Ski Racing Federation (FLGR) head Elena Vyalbe told that she “personally saw Norway’s representative in Zurich”. The Finnish side did not boycott the meeting, arguing that the absence of the Finnish delegation would increase the influence of Russian representatives at the meeting.

— The Finnish Ski Association considers it important to be present at the meeting not only to decide on the course of the upcoming season, but also to publicize its negative position regarding the participation of Russia and Belarus . Absence from the meeting would mean that we would not be able to take a position on important issues on which the Russians and Belarusians could influence.

In the future, the exclusion of Russia and Belarus should extend not only to the athletes, but also to the board of directors and the representative council. We will definitely raise this issue in Zurich,” said Ismo Hämäläinen, executive director of the Finnish Ski Association.

A decision on the participation of Russian athletes in competitions under the auspices of the FIS during the winter season is expected to be made in October.
