“Voices in favor of our return have been heard within the international federation. They throw a bait” – Stepanova

skier Veronika Stepanova spoke about the situation with the return of Russian female skiers to the international scene and also shared her goals for the upcoming season.

– How is the preparation for the new season going, given the little health concerns that haunted you this summer?

– These are all working times. It is not in my rules to approach the subject of health, I consider that it is too personal. The main thing is that now work will continue as usual, as last year, as before. Nothing has fundamentally changed.

– Have you set specific goals for the season?

– The main task is to show constantly high results, gain a foothold in the team and establish yourself as a stable athlete who always achieves his goals.

“This season is going to be different.

“No, no, I don’t think so. We have all-Russian competitions, we had the same schedule last year and the year before.

Well, there are still chances that we will be authorized for the World Cup, we are talking about it. But, on the other hand, I am even happy to some extent, because competitions in Russia are a good opportunity for me personally to solve my local tasks, which I just mentioned, to establish myself as an athlete steady.

– Do they discuss the subject of the suspension on the sidelines of the forum? Maybe there is some encouraging news?

— Everyone gives their predictions based on the information they receive, but apparently it’s different for everyone (laughs). Therefore, there is no single opinion, no middle ground. But there were voices in the international federation in favor of our return. They throw a bait. But how things will evolve is unclear.

– It seems that the FIS wants to see Russian skiers compete, but is afraid to make this decision without the approval of the International Olympic Committee. Do you agree?

– Maybe. In general, the situation is strange and absurd. Our suspension is so unfair… Every rule is broken…

– Over time, the feeling of injustice of what is happening does not go away?

“At the beginning, it was much more painful. Now it’s a little easier, because a person gets used to everything, ”quotes RT Stepanova.

The International Ski Federation (FIS) followed the recommendations of the International Olympic Committee in March and suspended Russians from competitions due to the situation in Ukraine until the end of the season. In July, the ban was extended. The head of the Russian Ski Racing Federation, Elena Vyalbe, said the FIS is expected to make a decision on the admission of Russian athletes in early October.

Stepanova, 21, won the Beijing Games gold medal in the classic 4×5 km relay.
