More than half of the 138 Russian athletes sanctioned for anti-doping rule violations based on data obtained from the Moscow lab are track and field athletes, according to Insidethegames.
Earlier in September, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) reported that the total number of convictions based on LIMS data had reached 138. At the time, the agency noted that their number could increase as the investigation continues.
WADA also said it was closely following the work of the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) to assess whether she met the necessary conditions for full reinstatement.
RUSADA was removed from compliance status in 2015 after Richard Pound, head of WADA’s independent commission, presented a report on doping in Russian athletics. In 2018, the agency was restored, one of the conditions was the transfer of the LIMS database from the Moscow laboratory. WADA experts discovered manipulations with the database, after which RUSADA was again recognized as incompatible with the code.
In December 2020, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) adopted a series of sanctions against Russian sport, RUSADA lost its compliance status, the sentence should expire in December this year.
