Deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Roman Tereshkov in a conversation with , he expressed the view that after the statement of the President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Thomas Bach the number of Russian athletes wishing to compete in a neutral status will be reduced to nil.
Earlier on Friday, Bach, in an interview with Corriere della Sera, said that Russian athletes who do not support the special operation in Ukraine should be able to participate in international competitions in a neutral status. At the end of February, the IOC recommended that sports federations prevent Russian and Belarusian athletes from taking part in competitions.
– Bach has made similar statements before, in March when he condemned Russia, he said that only athletes who condemned SVO can compete. Today, he reinforced his remarks with a neutral status for athletes. I am sure that the number of athletes who want to compete in a neutral status will be reduced to nothing, and only Kasatkina and others like her will remain in Bach’s cage.
I hope that athletes and sports officials have understood that it will not be like before, as the President of Russia said. You should speak for your country, flag, anthem and coat of arms, not your last name.
The CIO is a sort of instrument of grand politics. Like the WHO, the WTO, when the powerful of this world, as the Anglo-Saxons consider themselves, manipulate opinions through these tools and make the decisions that are beneficial to them for a given period of time. Moreover, the IOC is in their hands – it is an organization controlled by them, – said the State Duma deputy “”.
In September, Teryushkov said he would conduct a parliamentary inquiry into the amount of funds allocated to the development of Russian tennis after claims by Daria Kasatkina that the Russian Tennis Federation provided him with little support until the age of 18 years old, and about 90% of the costs fell on the shoulders of his parents.
