Valieva at the Beijing Olympics as part of the Russian team won gold in the team figure skating competition. The day after the free program of the team tournament, it was learned that the illegal drug trimetazidine had been discovered during the doping test of the figure skater, passed at the Russian championships in December.
The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) allowed Valieva to participate in individual competitions, where she took fourth place. The team tournament medal ceremony has yet to take place due to Valieva’s case.
