Double Olympic figure skating champion Yevgeny Plushenko does not understand how one can accept the conditions for the admission of Russians to international competitions, which were announced last week by the President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Thomas Bach.
Bach, in an interview with Corriere della Sera, said that Russian athletes who do not support the special operation in Ukraine should be able to participate in international competitions in a neutral status. In late February, the IOC recommended that sports federations not allow Russian and Belarusian athletes to compete, and most federations followed those recommendations.
– According to Bach, it seems that Russia will not return to international competitions soon.
– I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: sincerely, I don’t understand how you can abandon your country, accept these conditions, refuse a special operation for the sole purpose of going to the Olympics.
