Pakhnyuk on his failure to qualify for the World Cup: The sports principle in our team is destroyed by one person

The gymnast criticizes the head coach and wrote a letter of resignation from the Ministry of Sports

Ukrainian gymnast Petr Pakhnyuk commented on his absence from the national team for the upcoming World Artistic Gymnastics Championship.

“I do not agree with the decision not to put me in the team for the 2022 World Cup with the argument of the head coach Sartinsky: “I need to run in the youth”. He says about me “he can always perform like that” – I train every day.

“But who they are now putting is outright absurdity. You can run in at the stages of the World Cup, in commercial competitions, and not at the World Championships. The next time he decides to run a gymnast at the Olympics?

“I don’t want to be an accomplice in such actions, for which the second team is sent to the World Cup from taxpayers’ money. And there is no influence and regulation of his decisions. All excuses, about the collective decision of the coaches, are far-fetched things.

“The results of my competitions, the guys from the national team, are publicly visible at international competitions. Frankly, this is an order of magnitude higher than the team at the 2022 World Cup. In a word, the sports principle in our team is destroyed by one person. No sport can exist without real competition.”

“Obviously, if gymnasts are put into competitions by a selective decision, and not by competitions, the rest will sooner or later not want to participate in such teams. For me, I failed the European Championship 2022 and even such a performance can objectively strengthen our team.”

Pakhnyuk also asked to be fired from among the athletes on the balance sheet of the Ministry of Youth and Sports at his own request.

Earlier, the head coach of the Ukrainian national gymnastics team, Gennady Sartinsky, commented on the absence of Pakhnyuk in the team for the 2022 World Championships.

The World Championship kicks off in Liverpool on October 29th and runs until November 6th. 14 sets of awards will be drawn.
