Athletistic/ Others. Former boxing world champion State Duma deputy Nikolai Valuev has criticized the decision of the International Swimming Federation (FINA) to allow men to participate in group synchronized swimming competitions.
“Crazy. Moral freaks. Are we going to attract men? I don’t even want to answer. You shouldn’t ask such questions,” Valuev said.
On October 3, the FINA Congress approved the inclusion of men in the group competition. Previously, male synchronized swimmers only competed in mixed pairs and group tournaments were exclusively for women. The new rules will come into effect on January 1, 2023.
